Body Contouring Procedure
Liposuction can slim and reshape specific areas of your body by eliminating excess fat deposits and improving your body’s contours and proportion. Liposuction can reduce localized fat deposits of the face and body.
Localized fat deposits, which can cause disproportionate contours, may occur even when people are healthy and fit. Heredity, not just the lack of weight control or fitness, can cause the fat deposits.
Liposuction is performed alone or in combination with plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift, breast reduction, or a tummy tuck.
Inconspicuous, small incisions are used for liposuction. A sterile liquid solution is infused to reduce bleeding and trauma. A cannula, a thin hollow tube, is inserted through the incisions to loosen excess fat. A controlled back and forth motion is maintained to dislodge fat that is suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the cannula.
When the swelling and fluid retention, common during liposuction, subsides, your new body contour can be seen. With a healthy diet and fitness, the loss of excess fatty tissue should be permanent. Substantial weight gain, however, can alter the result.

Is liposuction the Right Surgical Option?
If you have tried diet and exercise and still have excess fat deposits anywhere on your body, then liposuction may be right for you. Ideal candidates for liposuction are adults within 30 percent of their ideal weight who have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone and an individual who has specific goals in mind for body contouring and is positive.
After the procedure, one must be careful. Success depends upon following Dr. Jason Hess’ instructions.
Surgical incisions must not be subjected to excessive force, swelling, abrasion, or motion during the time of healing. Dr. Hess will issue definite instructions about your individual care.
A compression garment or elastic bandages may cover treatment areas after the procedure. These help to control swelling and compress the skin to your new body contours. Small temporary drains may be placed in the existing incisions, beneath the skin, to remove any excess blood or fluid. Special considerations are needed when large amounts, usually more than 5 liters of fat, are suctioned.
Swelling may not fully dissipate for several months. When it does, your new contours, along with a more positive self esteem, should continue to develop. As long as you control your weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle, your liposuction results will be maintained. However, significant weight gain can reverse your results. Following liposuction, your slimmer and better-proportioned body will continue to reflect the healthy and active life you lead.
